Fire Flower (work in progress).
Fire Flower is a proposed interactive device for public spaces. It offers a sanctuary to those seeking stillness and eye candy to those seeking entertainment. Options for the surface include undulating patterns, water caustics, op art illusions of movement and depth, as well as near static, subtle color shifts reflecting the time of day, the season of the year, the mood of the observer.
Utilizing proximity and optical sensors the device acknowledges the presence of an observer—a color nod to engage with humanity. Like the sparkle of water reflecting onto the leaves of a tree, the Fire Flower twinkles at your arrival, flickers its leaves in joy, smiles in color and motion.
Agitated city dwellers have a place to sit and reflect, now a place for calm, a place to wait, a place to sit.
